Added: Area of Effect Templates (& Space Age Tokens)
Just a small update. I figured I'd add some generic images for Area of Effect templates both for physical print and virtual tabletop use. Nothing special, but one thing about these games that always bugged me was the definition of "cone" templates. I'll explain my thoughts below in the "Rant" section, but it is not necessary to read for this update. Each template should be within similar ranges of square area as the others. It is not a 1 to 1 exact measurement, but each shape should cover the same amount of ground per your needs.
Side note: while they've been on this page for about a year, I've neglected to mention the "Space-Age" Miniatures added to the collection of tokens. Far from any specific Sci-Fi setting, but they can be useful in a pinch for whatever kind of project you wish to use them for.
--- Rant about "Cone" Templates ---
To preface this rant, assume I am referring to template use of simplified 2D shapes rather than the accurate representation of the 3D cone. I am not looking for that kind of accuracy for tabletop games as most of the time, I don't expect my AoE volumes to be physically accurate to hitting the goblins on the floor as well as the giant spiders on the ceiling (I'd rather not get that niche here). This rant is just about shapes, how they're labeled, and what they are meant to represent.
So I've always had an issue with "Cone" AoE templates. Especially when a lot of games either use equilateral triangles (such as commonly seen in 5e DnD houserules) or sectors (which I've noticed Pathfinder being the guilty party of this use) to represent a "cone". And given the "cone" is meant to represent spray-type attacks such as flame throwers or dragon's breath, it just seems odd that such short ranged shapes(no matter how seemingly large due to their width) are used for these. What complicates the matter further is the descriptions of "cone" weapons going back to 2nd edition of DnD as well as the visual template found in Savage Worlds, either of which I find to be better representations but am disappointed that not many games use such templates. This is why in the Template PNGs file, you see various three-pointed shapes, each labeled as "Sector", "Stream", "Triangle", and of course "Cone". Now whether you decide to use the "cone" template for spells and effects that specify a cone shape as it's area or go with the commonly used "sector" or "triangle" templates, that is entirely up to you. I simply wish to offer you the choice to use whichever shape best fits your scene.
